The physicians of Plastic Surgery Affiliates are all highly trained experts.  As plastic and reconstructive suregeons, the focus is on all aspects of cosmetic surgery.During your initial appointment, good communication is key.You and your physician will discuss your desires and expectations.He will explain what is involved in the desired procedure, evaluate your particular situation, and discuss available options.He will also explain the factors that can influence the procedure and results.Based on this discussion, the doctor will make a recommendation.

Your doctor will also explain anesthesia options.“Local” anesthesia enables you to be awake during the procedure, but relaxed and insensitive to pain.“Local plus intravenous” sedation causes you to sleep through the entire procedure.Based upon the type of procedure and your physical health, your physician and our anesthesia personnel will determine the type of anesthesia to be used.

You and your physician will also discuss the location of your surgery.Most procedures can be performed in our office, on an outpatient basis.Depending upon your particular situation, your doctor may suggest an outpatient surgery center or a hospital.Complex procedures may require an overnight stay at a hospital.

Upon scheduling your surgery, your doctor will give you a complete physical examination and order blood work.He will also give you written instructions which are used as a guideline to prepare for your surgery.Depending upon the type of procedure, patients may be instructed to abstain from eating, drinking, smoking, and taking certain medications.With most procedures, it is necessary for your to arrange for someone to drive you home after surgery.

On the day of your surgery you will want to arrive on time.Immediately following surgery, you will remain in a monitored recovery room, attended by a registered nurse.Upon discharge, you will be given complete written instructions regarding the postoperative period.It is important that these guidelines are carefully followed.A postoperative office visit will also be scheduled.
